课题组长长期从事应激与炎症方向的研究。独立前的工作发现了细胞免于感染后免疫过激的负反馈机制（Mol Cell, 2008,共一，排第一）以及癌化驱动的炎症趋化因子生长信号通路（Cell，2013，第一作者）。独立后的工作聚焦在自身和环境变化引起的炎症应激，代表性成果总结如下：1）发现了内源性逆转录病毒（ERV）转录产物dsRNA通过核酸感应器ZBP1激活细胞坏死性凋亡和宿主炎症的新路径，鉴定了Caspase 8调控坏死性凋亡的磷酸化位点(Nature, 2020,最后通讯；Mol Cell, 2020，共同通讯 ）；2）阐明神经胶质细胞分化或迁移障碍引起的中枢神经炎症的新机制(Adv Sci, 2021,唯一通讯；Nat Commun, 2022,最后通讯）；3）报道了阿尔兹海默症病中小胶质细胞通过力感应受体Piezo1感知淀粉样沉淀的物理硬度，激活小胶质细胞对淀粉样沉淀的吞噬功能(Neuron, Accepted,最后通讯)。后续的工作将围绕ERV激活引起的细胞死亡和炎症展开，阐明复杂的细胞应激信号网络，探讨ERV激活的生理病理意义。
